Powerful Hydrocortisone Lotion for Poison Ivy and Skin Rashes (Lotion 1%, 4 oz)

Potential benefits include:
  • Lessening of eczema and skin rashes
  • Itching relief

Mericon Industries’ 1% hydrocortisone lotion is one of the strongest formulas you can buy without a prescription. While many over-the-counter creams often range from 0.1% to 0.5%, our 1% formula is an effective treatment for itchy skin conditions and rashes caused by poisonous plants.

Hydrocortisone relieves the symptoms of inflammation, including swelling, itching, and redness. Corticosteroids are related to naturally occurring hormones like those produced by the adrenal gland. As a powerful topical steroid lotion, you can use 1% hydrocortisone for poison ivy and serious skin rashes.

Hydrocortisone Lotion for Skin Rashes

There are a number of serious skin rashes that produce itchy, dry, scaly, bumpy, and irritated skin. Scratching and rubbing then cause these rashes to spread. Many professionals recommend hydrocortisone lotion for rashes like these:

  • ACD or Allergic Contact Dermatitis is caused by an allergic reaction to a substance in contact with the skin. Common examples are allergies to metal in jewelry, perfume, dyes, detergents, rubber, and nail polish.
  • ICD or Irritant Contact Dermatitis results from over-exposure to an irritant. Some examples of substances that cause this reaction include skin care products, hand sanitizers, chemicals, and frequent hand washing with soap.
  • Mask rashes are a type of irritant dermatitis caused by wearing masks and face coverings. You can use hydrocortisone for this face rash, sometimes called “maskne,” for the acne-like breakouts that can result.
  • Glove rashes are caused by irritations from or allergic reactions to rubber or latex gloves or the powder used inside them.

Hydrocortisone for Poison Ivy

Poison ivy, oak, and sumac are plants that produce a highly irritating oily substance on their leaves. When skin comes in contact with an irritating plant oil, many people react with a classic poison ivy rash. Skin is red with raised bumps and weeping sores, and the rash is spread by scratching or additional contact with contaminated clothing.

After carefully removing affected clothing and washing skin thoroughly, it is essential to reduce itching and inflammation to allow the skin to heal after exposure. While calamine lotion offers some relief for mild cases, using a high potency lotion with 1% hydrocortisone on a poison ivy rash can provide relief from this highly irritating condition.

Some ointments and lotions can make poison ivy, oak, or sumac worse. Avoid these products when you have a poison-ivy-type rash:1

  • Pain relieving lotions with benzocaine
  • Antibiotic lotions with bacitracin or neomycin
  • Antihistamine lotion or cream
